Bet Shira Congregation teams with Rebuilding Together.

Article by Carol Stein, Community Newspapers, March 31st - April 6th, 2009

Bet Shira Congregation, located in Pinecrest, has a very active Tikkun Olam Committee. Tikkun Olam literally means repairing the world. The committee has been in existence for over twenty years and has about 40 members who participate at various events, both at the synagogue and reaching out into the community. Recently 15 members of the committee showed to paint, landscape and make minor repairs at the home of an elderly disabled woman in Coconut Grove. Working for over eight hours the group completed what it set out to do.

The homeowner was very pleased with her home, which had been transformed right before her eyes The job was coordinated with James McCants, Director of Community Affairs for Rebuilding Together Miami. The Tikkun Olam Committee has coordinated several other jobs in the past in South Miami with James McCants. Hopefully this will be a long term relationship with many different people getting involved.
