(Miami, FL) - On May 3, 2011, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Dennis C. Moss supporting the application of Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc., to the State of Florida Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development for Community contribution tax credit approval; certifying that Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc.’s home rehabilitation projects are consistent with the Miami-Dade County Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) and all other applicable county regulations.
Florida law provides that certain businesses may apply for and receive a credit against state taxes for 50% of the value of qualified community contributions that are directed to approved projects, up to a maximum credit of $200,000 per year. Projects that may be approved include projects to rehabilitate housing for low income or very low income households. Any project for which a business seeks tax credits must be a project undertaken by an “eligible sponsor,” which may include nonprofit community-based organizations such as Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc. Rebuliding Together is an entity that obtains business contributions to rehabilitate housing for low income and very low income households in Miami-Dade County.
