May 10, 2010
Affiliate will partner with Sears Holding Corporation and Veterans Link Up to Repair Home of War Veteran – Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation and Heroes At Home, a program created through the partnership of Sears Holdings Corporation and Rebuilding Together, today announced their plans for the 2010 Heroes At Home project, which is dedicated to improving the lives of the military and their families through extensive home rehabilitations.
On Saturday, May 22, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Sears and Veterans Link Up will join together to rebuild and repair the home of a war veteran in South Miami. Since 2002, this staff sergeant in the Army Reserves has served in two deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is married with four children who are between 18 and 8-years old. When not looking after her family, the veteran’s wife is a project coordinator for a program that provides mental health services to military families.
As a result of previous hurricanes, the family’s home has a deteriorating roof and water destruction which has caused severe structural damage. This damage has also impacted the home’s energy efficiency, resulting in monthly electric bills that have exceeded $600.
The Heroes at Home Project will provide extensive repairs to this veteran’s home including roof and window repair, new floors, painting and installation of new kitchen appliances.
To date, the Heroes at Home program and Sears Holdings have raised nearly $9 million for Heroes at Home through 2009 via a nationwide in-store fund-raising campaign. This is one of the hundreds of projects made possible by these donations. Rebuilding Together has completed well over 500 projects for veteran homeowners across the country. The success of this program is only expected to rise as more projects begin.
Heroes At Home spring rebuild is slated to begin the first week of May and will continue throughout the spring.
