Rebuilding Together Miami Dade and Sears Announce Heroes at Home Project

Heroes at Home will complete over 100 projects throughout the country during the spring of 2011.

Heroes at Home. Rebuilding Together Miami Dade is working with Sears Holdings for spring rebuilds occurring across the country. For four years, Rebuilding Together and Sears’ Heroes at Home program have rebuilt veterans’ homes and community centers to improve the lives of our nation’s military families through accessibility and critical renovations.

Heroes at Home will complete over 100 projects throughout the country during the spring 2011, and to date, has raised over $12 million to assist veterans and their families to live in viable and safe homes. To date Rebuilding Together has completed over 795 rebuilding projects for veterans across the country.


Rebuilding Together Miami Dade is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership by revitalizing communities nationwide. Rebuilding Together Miami Dade and Sears Holdings will work together to engage local volunteers and businesses to impact Mr. James McCants, age 77, a Korean war veteran who has lived in his home for 49 years. The work scope includes a bathroom modification for wheelchair accessibility. Mr. Henry Tarver, age 85, a WWII vet is also a recipient of this grant. Mr. Tarver just lost his wife after 60 years of marriage. They had lived in their home 59 years. Work scope includes roof, porch and electrical repairs. Both houses will be painted and landscaped with volunteer help. Rebuilding Together Miami has completed 12 veterans’ homes to date.
