The Miami Dolphins Special Teams Driven by Chevy volunteer program and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation partnered with Rebuilding Together Miami to assist 93-year-old United States Army Veteran Sam Patterson and refurbish his home in honor of Veterans Day. More than 40 volunteers collaborated to restore Patterson’s house, which included renovating the bathroom and kitchen, repairing the roof, landscaping and exterior painting.

"The day went so well because the volunteers took the initiative to see and do things without us directing them," Rebuilding Together Miami Executive Director Donna Fales said. "The whole day and environment was positive; Mr. Patterson was absolutely delighted and appreciative."

Miami Dolphins alumni Twan Russell, Troy Drayton, Lousaka Polite and Jed Weaver lent a helping hand and visited with Patterson. The community service project was part of the Miami Dolphins "Salute to Service" campaign which is designed by the NFL to honor veterans and active duty members of the military.

Patterson, who served as an Air Corps Corporal in World War II, has lived at his home in Miami for 67 years. He served three years in the military and was stationed in Europe, both in London and France, where he worked as an airplane mechanic before returning to America. Patterson is the 36th military veteran house that Rebuilding Together Miami has worked on since 2008.
