MIAMI-DADE, Fla. Thousands of volunteers nationwide, gave back to their communities for the 13th annual "Comcast Cares Day."

In the South Florida area, hundreds of volunteers, including members of the NBC 6 family, helped improve local parks, community buildings and homes in Miami-Dade and Broward in partnership with non-profit "Rebuilding Together."

"It makes me feel great," said Comcast employee Adam Goyer. "I've been doing this for 13 years now and its nice to give back to the communities that we all live and work in."

Homeowners said they fell in love with their homes following the renovations.

"When I came in and saw my kitchen, I really wanted to cry," said homeowner Synovia Gibbs. "It made me feel so good."

Volunteers rehabilitated home for the elderly, the disabled and veterans who live on less than $20,000 a year.

"First time I've ever been in love with a bathroom," said homeowner Doris Jackson.

The volunteers worked quickly to get the job done, with up to four volunteers teaming up twenty different homes.

"What we want to tell the residents, you know for somebody that's elderly and sick, is if you have a choice between taking your medications and fixing your roof, we're here to take care of your roof, you take your medications. You stay healthy and we're going to make this house safe for you," said Eddy Blanco, with Rebuilding Together.

Many parents brought their children to teach them the importance of giving back.

"We have a beautiful family and we have a lot to be thankful for, but it wouldn't be enough if [the children] didn't know that they need to make a difference," said volunteer Alexandra Pagan.

And for someone like Jackson, who said she's been saving every penny, the volunteers' work really makes a difference.

"I can just save my pennies and keep them," Jackson said. "I love it, everything they're doing."
