April 12, 2016
Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc. will be providing restoration services to the Bernard and Sylvia Segal home in Westchester. More than 25 volunteers from Rebuilding Together and Colliers International South Florida will participate in the interior and exterior painting and landscaping of the residence on Friday, April 15th located in 2161 SW 87th Court, Miami, FL. 33165.
Heroes at Home, a collaborative initiative between Sears and Rebuilding Together, serves a key component of Rebuilding Together's vision of providing safe and healthy housing for every person. Through Heroes at Home, Rebuilding Together and its affiliate organizations are able improve the lives of veterans and their families through extensive home and community rehabilitations. Thanks to this grant, the Segals will also be receiving kitchen repairs, new flooring, tenting, and a healthy home kit.
"I feel so honored to be a recipient of these generous services," said Bernard Segal, World War II veteran and homeowner. "Rebuilding Together came into my life in exactly the right time." During his service, Mr. Segal was in the 778th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company as an Army Tech (Grade 4). He was stationed in Bombay, India and Burma. Mr. Segal helped to construct what is historically called "The World's Longest Pipeline" of petrol. Upon moving to Miami in 1948 Segal worked for Tropical Paper Box Co for 38 years before retiring in 1987. Sylvia worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital for 18 years and retired in 1987. He and his wife, Sylvia, of 68 years have lived in their Miami home for 49 years.
To date, Sears Holdings has raised $21 million for Heroes at Home through a nationwide in-store fund-raising campaign. This is one of the hundreds of projects made possible by these donations. Rebuilding Together has completed more than 1,500 projects for veteran homeowners across the country. The success of this program is only expected to rise as more projects are completed.
