As summer approached, Rebuilding Together and local HSBC employees joined forces to improve homes of elderly citizens in Coconut Grove. On Thursday June 12, 2008 and Friday June 13, 2008 more than two dozen HSBC volunteers painted, repaired and landscaped the homes of Mrs. Sarah Askew, age 80, and Mrs. Bernice Brown, age 79. Mrs. Askew is a retired school teacher who has lived in her Coconut Grove home forty-three years. Mrs. Brown has been in her home thirty-seven years.

Renato Rodriguez, District Sales Manager of the Kendall office, worked alongside the enthusiastic HSBC employees giving encouragement when the temperatures rose and the sun beat down. Many of the HSBC employees volunteered last year for the community service days so they were prepared for the work and weather. Carlos Castillo, Assistant District Sales Manager, praised the HSBC volunteers who are so willing to give a day of service to the community. The volunteers worked hard but they had fun together. They thoroughly enjoyed helping these elderly homeowners fix up their homes. Both Mrs. Askew and Mrs. Brown were on hand to thank the volunteers and bless them for their kindness.

Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade joined nearly 100 Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide in leading employees from HSBC-North America's HFC, and beneficial branches, as well as HSBC Credit Centers in providing a wide variety of community service projects for elderly, disabled homeowners in need.

HSBC volunteers donated approximately 30,000 volunteer hours during the two-week effort, a part of Financial Services Roundtable's "Community Service 2008" initiative.
